Sue Francis takes top writing award

Waimate's Sue Francis has won the open division of The Sunday Star-Times short story awards.

This is Sue’s second writing success this year. She has recently had a story published in the latest volume of Random House’s Best New Zealand Fiction.

This year Sue has been studying on the Creative Writing for Publication course.
Sue acknowledges the support of tutor Diane Brown and says winning the Short Story Awards is a wonderful spur.

"I have to go home and work even harder now. It's just such a privilege to get this prize. For writers, you do have to believe in it and do it for yourself, all the time, but to have other people enjoy your work and to get it into the world, it's your dream."
